Some Tips For ‘Going Green’ From Clueless Curl

Tips for going green-TaylorWalkerFit.com

I recently did an interview with CluelessCurl.com about going green and living a natural hair life! Here is the interview. I would love to hear some of your answers! Let me know how you live your eco-friendly life in the comment section below.

How long have you been eco-friendly? I started my health and fitness journey seriously about two years ago. I entered my late twenties, and realized my digestion was slowing, and I better start to pay attention to what goes into and onto by body.

Why did you choose to be eco-friendly? I actually entered a modeling contest with Wilhelmina Models. I already had a Master’s Degree in Physical Education, but “walking the walk and talking the talk” was a must! It paid off. I won the contest as well as a three year modeling contract with one of the top modeling agencies in the country.

What do you like about it? I love the physical and mental benefits, as well as the creativity. I now wholeheartedly agree with the fact that “You are what you eat”. My skin has become clearer, my hair longer, and I have more energy than ever!

Did you face any challenges? If so, what was/is the biggest obstacle(s)? Yes! Of course, I love pizza, and used to love fast food and soda…who doesn’t? My husband has spent the month ridding his system of soda. Between the sugar and caffeine, the headaches are unbearable (poor guy), but once you do it you will be amazed that the foods you loved are no longer palatable.

Any tips/advice for someone looking to be more eco-friendly? Take baby steps. Do not expect to become a “Green Goddess” over night. Start small and have fun playing. Make your own mask by mixing ingredients like avocado and honey or egg whites with lemon juice. Use coconut oil as a moisturizer. Having fun pinning and it won’t feel like such a daunting task.

Going green can be complex. This discourages a lot of people. There’s really no “right” way it’s basically trying to do something than nothing at all. I sometimes feel like a green hypocrite. Do you feel that way sometimes? Of course, unless you have the time, money, and energy to be green all the time, do what works for you and your household. Awareness is such an important step and anything you can do to decrease your footprint and do something good for you body. Then pat yourself on the back and say way to go!

You know I gotta ask, How long have you kept your hair natural and how do you keep it so FLY? I have been natural my whole life actually! Except for a time in college where I listened to a hairdresser who forced me into a relaxer. Worst idea ever. My hair broke off into layers and I was forced to cut my hair to shoulder length. My secret is coconut oil 1-2 times per week.

Wash with a clarifying shampoo if I have a lot of buildup or a cleansing conditioner and then slather it on. Throw it in a bun and sleep. Keep it in for as long as possible. My hair has grown so much and less all the heat styling my locks have remained healthier than ever.

Is there anything you like to add? Embrace who you are. We have one body, one life, enjoy it to the fullest, treat it with kindness, and laugh… laugh a lot!

Love, Taylor
