5 Ways to Bounce Back After You Overindulge

These past two weeks have been a whirlwind of gluttonous pleasure. The hubby and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary. We ate way too much at STK and drank delicious wine until our hearts content. After all, it was a cause for celebration. This weekend, my brother pulled off the surprise of a lifetime! After three months of planning,  he asked his girlfriend to marry him and had all of our families in on the surprise. We showed up early, decorated the room, caught the whole thing on video, and when they came downstairs, we were there to yell ‘SURPRISE’, and start the party off right! She literally had NO idea, and as soon as the tears started flowing…so did the tequila.

On the weekends Cory and I usually splurge, but I haven’t had a weekend like this in a  while. On the first night we didn’t make it home until 3:45 in the AM. My 30 year old bones were so mad at me, but we had to spend the night dancing like a couple of teenagers on prom night! The next day we had a family brunch provided by the groom, and then ventured out to do some sight seeing. On our way back we hit the Reading Terminal Market which was a culinary feast for the ages, and a must-see if you are in the ‘city of brotherly love’. There were vendors of all kinds, and we ate everything from a gruyere, ham and pickle grilled cheese to the most insanely juicy Reuben Sandwhich. We didn’t have enough time to stand in line for a maple bacon donut, so we settled for the rest of my mothers pumpkin ice-cream. The only caveat is that we walked for hours that day, and my lunch was a honey crisp apple the size of my face! Yesterday, we ended the trip at  Philly classic….the battle royale between Pat’s and Gino’s cheesteaks. We went Pat’s and I had a pepper cheesesteak with cheese wiz…yes cheese wiz. I currently feel two equal parts disgusting and three parts sublimely happy. Living so far away from family and friends is really difficult for us, but it is times like these that will be engrained in my heart forever.

I am so thankful that my siblings have found amazing women to spend their life with! All six of us have the best time together. We laugh until we cry, and through all the ups and downs I will always have their backs. Congratulations to my super romantic little brother, and thank-you for bringing our whole family together. We haven’t had that much fun in a really long time, and cannot wait for all of the fun that is to come!

So now that I am completely overstuffed…How am I going to get it together when I have three days of shooting this week? Well, here are my five tips on how-to bounce back after overindulging.

Eat: People think that by starving themselves will force them to lose weight fast. I have become a grazer. I like to eat a large breakfast and lunch, have a couple of sensible snacks in between, and then eat an early dinner around 6-6:30 PM. Something light like fish and veggies. If you do not eat your body will work overtime to hold onto that fat. Choose healthy fats, lean proteins and complex carbs like whole grains or sweet potatoes. Also, choose fruits and veggies that are high in fiber.

Water: Ever wake up after a night of partying to the worst dry mouth of your life?! Water brings you back so drink as much as you can, and then drink more! It will help your body digest, add some lemon or apple cider vinegar to really give it the 1-2 punch.

Sleep: There is no better cure for many things than getting a solid 8 hours of sleep! So if you can get it…put the technology down, set your phone on sleep mode, and head on down to dream town.

Exercise: This is a given! Break a sweat everyday for a week. You do not need to spend hours in the gym, but 30 minutes to an hour of moderate to heavy physical activity can make all of the difference in the world, and get you back to your normal self in a couple of days!

Re-Live The Happy Moments: Usually when we overindulge it is because we are celebrating, sharing laughs and breaking bread with those that we love. We cannot ever get those moments back. So enjoy the pizza, the burger or the cheesesteak because sharing food with people you love is simply just food for the soul.
